Bringing Darwin’s tree back to life for Diversity Gardens.

How do you take Charles Darwin’s ‘Tree of Life’ as an inspiration to create an identity? This was the challenge set by Diversity Gardens, a London-based landscaping design company. Simply replicating the sketch that came to symbolise the theory of evolution by natural selection, wasn’t an option.
The only answer was to create our own, so we set about coding a tool that utilised the form and interconnected notion of Darwin’s tree. The software employed variable sliders to give us control over basic parameters, but the rest was generative, every tree rendered was unique.
